Nation by nation, speak your mind about....Zimbabwe

SwampGtr's old thread about states inspired me to start this series:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=4729109

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe /zɪmˈbɑːbweɪ/, officially the Republic of Zimbabwe, is a landlocked country located in southern Africa, between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers. It is bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the southwest, Zambia to the northwest and Mozambique to the east. The capital is Harare. Zimbabwe achieved de jure sovereignty from the United Kingdom in April 1980, following 14 years as an unrecognised state under the conservative white minority government of Rhodesia, which unilaterally declared independence in 1965.
Zimbabwe has 16 official languages,[3] with English, Shona and Ndebele being most common. The present territory was first demarcated by Cecil Rhodes' British South Africa Company during the 1890s, becoming a self-governing colony as Southern Rhodesia in 1923. President Robert Mugabe is head of state and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Renowned as a champion for the anti-colonial cause,[10] Mugabe is also viewed as an authoritarian[11][12] responsible for Zimbabwe's problematic human rights record[13] and substantial economic decline.[14] He has held power since internationally recognised independence in 1980: as head of government since 1980 and head of state since 1987.

I've never been to Zimbabwe, having only been to Egypt many miles to the north. I love to travel, so I'd like to go there. Ok, your turn......

State by state speak your mind about....Alabama

h/t to SwampG8r , who started this two years ago. Feel free to take this over if you wish SwampG8r.

Hmm..what to say ? Very southern (duh), people very friendly (to me anyway fwiw) but very conservative. They seem to really love their football. I've only driven through Mobile and was in Auburn for a while to see a friend.

ok your turn.....

Alaska has no special weather warnings whatsoever....

Rather significant, given that it's so huge.

anyone in debate club in high school or college ?

DU seems ideal for someone who has had "formal" debate training. I was in a few debates, but I lost interest pretty fast.

WoW: anyone still playing ?

When I get inspired I'll go back. Right now I'm not there yet.

california v. florida

38.04 million (2012) = California's population

19.32 million (2012) = Florida's population

California is 97% larger (roughly), by population, than Florida (ok ok I was quite unclear in the first draft).

And yet, it's FloridaMan every day. I don't deny my state has plenty of, um, unique people to put it kindly. Your state is around 97% larger and I infrequently read about CaliforniaMan or CaliforniaWoman.

This thread, in a nutshell, is why everyone wants to move to California. Have fun, all you nice California DU'ers

Download.com: how to use it and not get crappy adware in your downloads

Step One: Go to http://download.cnet.com/windows/

Step Two: Navigate the site to find the file you want.

I'll use Maxthon web browser for an example.

You click "Save", of course, to save the download manager file to your Desktop.

Step Three: You click the download manager file

Step Four: Click "Next Step"

Step Five: Ok, things get a tad tricky now. Look very closely at this screen below

IT WANTS YOU TO INSTALL SEARCH PROTECT FOR CONDUIT. See it ? Unless you really want that adware, click the GRAY "Decline" button. Tricky tricky.

Step Six: Now look very closely at every screen you get after you click the first Decline. They ALL want you to install some adware. Click the GRAY Decline buttons.

EVENTUALLY....you get to a very straightforward screen that allows you to download ONLY the Maxthon file.

Once you download ONLY the Maxthon file, find it on your Desktop and click it to install it.

CONGRATS ! You have now installed ONLY the Maxthon web browser and NO adware.

The key with ALL downloads is to read read read carefully. Almost always that's how you get adware and other crapware.

Any questions ? Good luck.
