Hugh_Lebowski's JournalJust when I thought I couldn't hate the COVIDIOTS any MORE, they're possibly killing my Aunt
My 80 y.o. Aunt (fully vaxxed, fully liberal, and totally cool), my mom's only sibling, and the only person from the older generation I have left apart from my mom has been in the hospital for 7 weeks in Sonora, CA, after a simple surgery gone wrong (per Mom's opinion) has cascaded into a series of problems, infections, and follow up surgeries.
This is the convo we just had ... note that my mom was a nurse and hospital administrator for nearly 50 years, so she knows of whence she speaks. Ben and Melissa are her kids, my only first cousins. And Don is our family lawyer.
BTW, nobody has been able to visit her in person since week 1, BECAUSE COVIDIOTS ... But they were finally just allowed in to visit, then hit up with the 'comfort care' spiel.
Mom:
Aunt Lee is probably not going to make it. She now has pneumonia and they are trying to get us to put her on just comfort care. We haven't given up so far but she is pretty critical (for the umpteenth time)
I did get to see her yesterday and Ben and Melissa are with her today. Then they are trying to cancel our visitation unless we put her on comfort care.
Me:
Damn it! Pneumonia? Is she C19 positive?
Extorting you to resolve to let her pass away if you want to be able to visit sounds pretty shitty.
Mom:
She tested negative a couple of days ago. We are writing a letter from Don
Me:
Well, this sucks 🙁
Most hospitals are probably neck deep in pneumonia (and similar) too right now. Guessing the demand on treatment equipment is at a premium.
Mom:
Yes, and she's an old lady so they don't give a damn.
They are neck deep in Covid patients because the people of Sonora deny Covid and do nothing to stop it.
Me:
Do you have a feeling they're pushing the comfort care because they need the equipment for others?
Mom:
yes
Me:
just when I thought I couldn't hate the Covidiots any more.
Mom:
We plan to take her home to die if it comes to comfort care but it takes them 24 hours to arrange it.
Norm Macdonald, Comedian and 'Saturday Night Live' Star, Dies at 61
I hadn't seen posted, so ...
I liked Norm, I like the deadpan style. He was often in nearby Scottsdale, AZ partying.

Macdonald privately battled the disease for almost a decade. Norm was an original! He defined American humor with honesty and blunt force, Jeff Danis, president of DPN Talent and one of Macdonalds reps, told Variety in a statement.
Tomorrow's Wingnut Circle Jerk re: the Recall (poll)
So, which is going to be the prevailing theory, conspiracy or otherwise?
EDIT: Sorry for changes after posting

r.e.m. - finest worksong (glastonbury-1999) your finest hour!
steve earle - way down in the hole (studio-2007) an appropriate tune for the day
Theme song on The Wire for a season or two (RIP MKW), and Steve Earle has always been a big friend of the working man ... though this is actually a Tom Waits cover.
the alarm - devolution working man blues (studio-1987) kickin the dirt off my shoes!
john mayer & keith urban - don't let me down (crossroads-2013) better than you may think it will be
What I mean is, they definitely do not.
It's freaking good!
Mayer had had throat surgery recently so Keith stepped up for some of the high notes.
the first time I discovered there was such thing as a 'single' version vs. an 'album' version
I was 10 or 11, and I remember hearing this song on my daddy's record player when I was visiting for the weekend in 1975 or 1976, and I absolutely loved it and made him play it a bunch of times that weekend. It was the version on the album, which is the only one you ever hear nowadays.
Then I heard it on the radio during the week, because it was released as a single at that same time, and I remember being like ... wait ... this is different! What the heck!
And I remain baffled to this day WHY they made a different mix for the single. Guessing this was the 'AM' version, whereas the FM stations would play the album version.
a lebowski musical guarantee for my fellow americana fans ... this dude is damn good
he's been making records for 11 years, he does a lot of styles but all are rooted in 60's and 70's music ... americana, beatlesque, 70's rock ... he really has almost no bad songs, and a hell of a lot of really good ones
alternate, stripped down version, damn cool
