New state voter fraud units finding few cases from midterms

WASHINGTON (AP) — State-level law enforcement units created after the 2020 presidential election to investigate voter fraud are looking into scattered complaints more than two weeks after the midterms but have provided no indication of systemic problems.

That's just what election experts had expected and led critics to suggest that the new units were more about politics than rooting out widespread abuses. Most election-related fraud cases already are investigated and prosecuted at the local level.

Florida, Georgia and Virginia created special state-level units after the 2020 election, all pushed by Republican governors, attorneys general or legislatures.

The absence of widespread fraud is important because the lies surrounding the 2020 presidential election spread by former President Donald Trump and his allies have penetrated deeply into the Republican Party and eroded trust in elections. In the run-up to this year's elections, 45% of Republicans had little to no confidence that votes would be counted accurately.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/gaming/squid-game-star-oh-yeong-su-indicted-for-sexual-misconduct/ar-AA14yGfb?

Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Squid Game Golden Globe winner Oh Yeong-su has been indicted in South Korea on sexual misconduct charges.

Prosecutors announced Friday that the 78-year-old actor had been charged recently and released without detention.

He was accused in December 2021 of inappropriately touching a woman in 2017. Police had closed the case in April without filing charges but prosecutors reopened the case following a request from the victim.

Oh, who plays Oh Il-nam on the Netflix hit, Squid Game, has denied the charges.

"I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake," Oh told Korean news broadcaster JTBC.

"I apologized because [the person] said she wouldn't make a fuss about it but it doesn't mean that I admit the charges."

K. Rittenhouse Marks Thanksgiving Promoting Violent Vid Game Starring Himself "media ruined his life

Kyle Rittenhouse on Thursday — Thanksgiving — shared a video on Twitter promoting a video game in which a character based on himself shoots turkeys that symbolize the so-called “fake news” media.

Rittenhouse appears in the spot for “Kyle Rittenhouse’s Turkey Shoot” with the game’s developer, Mint Chip.

In the promo, Rittenhouse claims the media has ruined his life. He claimed self-defense and was found not guilty after he shot two unarmed racial justice protesters to death in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020.

“When I saw how these fake news turkeys operated, I had to start coding immediately,” the developer says in the clip. “Gamers will get to play as Kyle Rittenhouse using a highly specialized laser gun to strike down any turkey that spreads lies, propaganda, or liberal bias.”

“We’re not clucking around,” the programmer concludes.

“Cluck yeah,” says Rittenhouse.

Couple leave 2 year old alone for trip to NY from SC. How long is a round trip from SC to NY?

what's not clear... how long them expected to be away . if they planned to drive right back... how long would the trip be?

------------------------
While the parents were in New York, their child was left alone in their South Carolina apartment. Exactly a week ago is when this whole situation began. An unnamed witness said that the child’s father sent a text saying that he was in New York for business. After that, the apartment management did a check on the apartment, but were unable to reach anyone. When they entered the apartment, they found the baby in the living room, laying on a bed.

Fortunately, the only problem the child had was a dirty diaper. According to the police, the baby woke up and reached for a water bottle, which was empty. Eventually, the father did call the apartment complex, according to police reports. They said the father called and said he left the apartment at 6 am, saying he was “only a few states away.” After that, he said he thought he left the child with the mother. It was later discovered the child’s mother was with the father. As a result, both parents were arrested.

Oklahoma Gov son caught drunk with guns in car - wasn't arrested, won't have criminal record

DA offers deferred prosecution to Stitt's son after deputies find him drunk with guns

GUTHRIE — Following a Halloween incident in Guthrie, the Logan County Sheriff's Office recommended that a charge be filed against the governor's son for possessing alcohol as a minor, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Oklahoman.

On Monday, District Attorney Laura Thomas confirmed she had received the affidavit but decided to offer Stitt and those with him a deferred prosecution program, which involves community service and other requirements in order to avoid a charge and criminal record.

Letters with the offer were sent out last week before media reports surfaced about the incident, Thomas said.

"Whether his last name was Stitt or Hofmeister doesn't matter to me," said Thomas, referring to Gov. Kevin Stitt and his Democratic challenger, Joy Hofmeister, whom he beat in a Nov. 8 election.

On Oct. 31 sheriff deputies were called to a Guthrie haunted house where John Drew Stitt, the governor's 20-year-old son, was intoxicated and in possession of firearms.

Billionaire Trump neighbor says his Mar-a-Lago crowd aren't real friends: 'It's all transactional'

A billionaire who lives near Trump in Florida said that former President Donald Trump is not surrounded by true friends at the club, according to the Financial Times.

Real estate mogul Jeff Greene told the paper that the atmosphere of adulation there is "all transactional."

The paper said Greene joined as a Mar-a-Lago member in 2010. It was not clear if he remained part of the club.

Trump is well-known for holding court among allies and admirers at his Florida home, often soaking up applause when he walks in the room, as filmmaker Alex Holder said earlier this year.

And the FT described the many fans — including wealthy "Trumpettes" — who flock to Mar-a-Lago and lavish praise on the former president. Greene suggested this is all fake.

The paper said Greene joined as a Mar-a-Lago member in 2010. It was not clear if he remained part of the club.He said that one person he knows who plays golf with Trump "all the time" was never invited to the White House when Trump was president, implying that Trump did not really much care for him.

REPUBLICANS LOST BIG ON ABORTION BALLOT MEASURES. NOW THEY'RE TRYING TO CHANGE THE RULES

REPUBLICANS LOST BIG ON ABORTION BALLOT MEASURES. NOW THEY’RE TRYING TO CHANGE THE RULES
Ohio’s Republican secretary of state says a proposal to make it harder to pass ballot initiatives isn’t about abortion. But as Ohio advocates debate a possible abortion ballot measure, liberal advocates are calling it “a power grab.”

Republicans, perhaps coming to terms with the unpopularity of their antiabortion agenda, seem to be grasping for a new playbook. Republicans in Ohio want to make it harder to amend the state constitution via ballot initiative, which abortion advocates say is a blatant attempt to block voter-driven efforts to enshrine reproductive protections in state rights.

“Ohio’s constitution has been far too susceptible to efforts by outside groups and special interests seeking to alter the people’s constitution to achieve their own ends,” Republican state representative Brian Stewart said, according to The Columbus Dispatch. With the backing of Frank LaRose, the Republican Ohio secretary of state, Stewart has introduced a resolution that would require a supermajority of Ohioans, 60%—as opposed to the current threshold of 50% plus one vote—to change the state constitution.

--------

The Fairness Project, an organization that backs progressive ballot measures, was quick to condemn the effort. “Let’s be clear about what this announcement means: Ohio Republicans are planning a power grab next year in order to diminish voters’ power at the ballot box,” executive director Kelly Hall said in a statement. “They know voters don’t agree with them on the issues, so they are changing the rules of the game.”

Even LaRose’s own statement regarding the supermajority proposal arguably belies the claim that the current threshold has left Ohio susceptible to the grip of special interests. As he noted, of the 16 petition-based amendments that have been proposed in the state since 2000, only five have passed. And abortion is a particularly controversial issue in the Buckeye state. Ohio’s Republican governor, Mike DeWine, signed one of the strictest abortion bans in 2019, which went into effect when Roe v. Wade fell. A so-called heartbeat bill, it makes abortion illegal after about six-weeks of pregnancy with no exceptions for rape or incest, but has since been blocked by the courts. According to the Dispatch, abortion rights advocates in the state are currently debating whether to put the issue on the ballot in 2023 or 2024.
