Stalking would be silly and a shitload of work for no reason. You find a trail in the woods where they habitually pass an wait for them to come by - hence, a deer stand either in a tree or on the ground.

It would be silly and far less safe to try to stalk a deer. Surprising a deer is difficult and when you do, you've got no time to make sure you're making a safe shot.

Hunters only stalk in movies.
