Bush succeeded in keeping it on the sidelines, and only bringing it up in terms of "terror, terror, terror."

it was up to the democrats to make the war an issue. but Kerry didn't do a good enough job of presenting a coherent foreign policy alternative. (it didn't help that the Presstitute Corps ignored or misquoted virtually everything Kerry said and instead concentrated on SwiftVet Liars and Cheney's gay daughter...)

with his voting record, he needed to be more clear about the war. he did come out against it, late in the day, but wasn't able to show us a clear way out.

:( :( i remember banging my head against the wall all through the summer, saying, "PLEASE Mr. Kerry give us a real plan to get out of Iraq." but he didn't, and it cost him, imho.
