William Stamps Farish Sr. was the president of Standard Oil who got into trouble for dealing with the Nazis after the start of World War II. He died under the strain, his son died in an accident the following year, and William Stamps Farish III grew up as a reclusive multi-millionaire -- and close friend of George H.W. and Barbara Bush. It's Farish III who's the horse-breeder and current ambassador to Great Britain.

Farish has family connections to several prominent Houston families and also to various extreme right-wingers. Nobody knows much about him or what he does with his money, and he's been almost invisible as ambassador. A creepy guy all round.
