13. In fairness, what else would a sitting VP say?
This is hardly unexpected, regardless of person or party. Partisan confidence is absolutely expected from top-level administration officials. If he'd even said, "I'm unsure which party will win in 2008," let alone speculated publicly that the POTUS would switch to the Democrats, it would be taken as an unacceptable indicator of uncertainty and pundits would wonder loudly as to when he was planning to resign.

However, our DUish inclination to view this as ominous is a reflection of how little confidence we have in our democracy, as much as the Times' inclination to present it as newsworthy is a reflection of how much propping the GOP faithful require of late.
