38. I just e-mailed the News Hour:
I watched your Democratic Convention coverage last night, and was appalled at David Brooks' performance. When given the opportunity to evaluate Jimmy Carter's speech, his comments were directed toward what was NOT, in his opinion, referred to in the speech, i.e., Islamic terrorism, rather than evaluating what was actually said by Carter. Then, when Jim Lehrer in the interview with Carter can Brooks a chance to reiterate his point, he deigned to do so.
Perhaps this is because he was flat wrong on substance. To quote from the NY Times transcript of Carter's speech:
"America stood proud, wounded but determined and united. A cowardly attack on innocent civilians brought us an unprecedented level of cooperation and understanding around the world. But in just 34 months we have watched with deep concern as all this good will has been squandered by a virtually unbroken series of mistakes and miscalculations. (Cheers, applause.) Unilateral acts and demands have isolated the United States from the very nations we need to join us in combating terrorism."
If the News hour deems it desirable to have commentators, can't you choose one with at least half of a brain, and a dash of integrity? Sadly, David Brooks meets neither of those criteria.
Sincerely, XXXXX
