I like tigers too, but never really met one in "person" (I did encounter a lion one time, but that's another story...I like cats of all persuasions - and generally all animals with some exceptions of the homo sapiens variety)

You might gently point out that most of the Viet Nam veterans eventually came to realize (as I did) that it was an ill-conceived "war" that we essentially -lost- in spite of the valorous efforts of our troops (I lost 4 friends myself...I was in the military then but by the vagaries of fate never was sent there) and the situation in Iraq is becoming much the same situation.
