Not MY kids, damn you!

I have two sons, eleven and eight. The oldest has a few medical issues that would probably prevent him from joining the military, but even if he didn't, I would do everything in my power to dissuade him from ever doing so.

Not because I revile the service, or hold anything against the men and women in uniform, but because it's terribly dangerous to put oneself into a circumstance where they can be sent into danger at the whim of deluded, greedy, or sociopathic "leaders."

I stronly oppose any return to the draft...my wife and I debate this all the time. She's in favor (which strikes me as weird, since it's so opposite most Libertarian thought) and I'm vehemently opposed. Like I said to her a couple of weeks ago. It's one thing to give up some of your civil rights (like freedom of speech, for example) voluntarily--it's quite another to have them taken from you under threat of force.
