15. Great post. Some suggestions:
Got any salt? My opinion, fwiw:

- change "son of a bitch" to a less misogynistic epithet. I understand what you mean, but seeing the word "bitch" makes a lot of women cringe. Perhaps "asshat" might be a good fit: it's just as colorful as "asshole," but not as lurid.

- "You figure this is to be expected." As an opening sentence, this paragraph needs something more active: "This type of opposition is (to be) expected."

- Consider not mentioning Neighbor Larry's name in the piece. He hasn't been arrested or charged with any crime, from what I've read. He knows who he is, and so do we.

- "A Bush supporter drove a truck through a line of grave markers with the names of dead American soldiers inscribed on them. It is difficult to imagine a more profound desecration." (And this is profound, why? Tell me. I understand, but for the sake of those who don't get it, tell them. Great place for artful rhetoric here.)

Excellent piece. Still, I had to open my yap and offer my rusted opinon.
