8. I remember the warm, soft dirt
I learned many years later that I was about 10 months. What I remember is wanting to play with this very fine, warm, orange-brown dirt that felt sooooo good. I remember my Mom picking me up and moving me to other dirt and telling me to play there. I remember my frustration that I couldn't explain how I didn't want the dirt she put me in.

I learned years later that at 10 months my family went camping with a group in Yosemite.. I wrecked the entire trip because everytime anyone took their eyes off me I would crawl to the road to sit in the dirt and play. My parents kept trying to direct me to dirt that wasn't on the road. I remembered bits and pieces of this but mostly the feel of the warm dirt. My family did not camp again for about 6 years.
