30. He was kind of a prick about it too.
I was all dressed and ready to go, and the phone rang. He told me decided he wanted to "go out with the guys" for NYE. Um, okay. And you waited until NOW to tell me? (It was 6:00 and he was supposed to pick me up at 6:30). Then he went on to say, "Well, I just don't think I want to have a girlfriend right now. I guess I'd rather break up now."

Oooookay. Jerkoff.

So I cried and got all messed up and puffy-eyed. I thought about drinking the blackberry brandy in my cupboard and decided against it. I took another shower to unpuff my eyes, got dressed and made up again, and sat in my kitchen chainsmoking until about 8:00, feeling very lonely and used up.

There was a bowling alley bar about a mile from my apartment. It was more nightclubby than most bowling alley bars, and I figured there might be at least a few people there I knew. And it was close enough that I could walk home if need be. So I went. I felt weird walking in ther on NYE all by myself, but the bouncer let me in for no cover charge. They had paper hats and noisemakers and all the attendant merrymaking equipment. I sat at the bar and ordered a drink. Shortly thereafter, I saw some guy I'd gone to high school with and told him my sob story. He and his friends decided to make it their business to cheer me up, which was nice. It still wasn't quite the same, though.

That's one boyfriend who made for-damn-sure I'd never forget him. I've been been dumped plenty in my day, but that one is in the top two for coldness.
