Three weeks into driving on used veg oil and the biggest problems have been related to accessory mounts with a tensile strength of akin to warm butter and a major mess caused by allowing my electric pump to overfill my on-board veggie oil fuel tank. It's so much fun commuting on free fuel, especially when surrounded by SUVs.

The VW mount bracketry for the AC and the alternator is one of the most failure-prone I have ever seen. Sure, all of the stuff is quite old, but I could design a better system with half the parts.

Anyway, I'm begining to look for a second VW diesel, a wagon or maybe a Vanagon. Something to replace the big station wagon.

If any of you Lounge Lizards are also gearheads and are itchin' to get into a new project, I would reccomend you try one of these conversions. It works! If you are not so much a gearhead but are still interested, then check out the kits from www.frybrid.com, about the best I've seen.
