putting a yellow ribbon on your car counts as supporting the troops is false. I support the ribbons. I have three. Much like flag lappel pins, or a cross around the neck, the ribbon magnets are external expressions of sentiments that ought to correspond to a genuine, internal, thoughtful position on issues. Oftentimes, however, people just slap ribbons on the cars, or wear huge crosses. Wearing a cross around your neck makes you no more a Christian then wearing a U.S Army t-shirt makes you a soldier. Unless one has a real commitment to supporting the troops (i.e. condemning those who attack veterans simply because those veterans might have opposed the war, donating to military causes, demanding effective foreign policy leadership, serving yourself, etc.), that person might be what they call a sunshine patriot.
