...I simply love Netflix due to their huge rental library and the convenience of using mail. I don't own a car, and renting from one of the terrific independent rental places in my area would require making special trips into neighborhoods where I rarely go. Then I'd have to keep an eye on the calendar and return the DVD promptly.

The convenience factor makes the difference for me, especially since I have long commutes and so little time to watch movies.

It also doesn't hurt that you can do a quick search of an actor, director, title, etc., and find what you want fairly easily. All the French films, HBO productions, British TV shows, and whatever else I've missed can be ordered up without effort.

A couple of caveats:

1. Do pay attention to the number of movies you're allowed to rent in a month. If you put off watching and returning something, you can miss the deadline for renting a new movie and therefore not get the best value on your monthly fees.
2. Sometimes you'll get a damaged DVD that won't play. That happened on my very first rental. However, it was replaced immediately (the mail order facility is right in the same county), and all further rentals have shown no technical problems.
