Press: Senator, quick last question. One of your friends is Sen. Max Cleland. I think he's a great American, triple amputee in Vietnam. When he ran for re-election and you supported him, the Bush White House went after him and called him unpatriotic . . .

Miller: No . . .

Press: . . . because he opposed the homeland security. . .

Miller: They did not call him . . .

Press: How can you support President Bush after what he did to Max? . . .

Miller: They did not call him unpatriotic. What they did was the national Democrats and the leadership of the Senate, they made the man vote over and over again on putting collective bargaining ahead of homeland security and they hung an albatross around his neck that was impossible to remove. And they did the same thing with Judge Pickering in Mississippi. You reap what you sow.

I guess Cleland deserved what he reaped according to ZELL. But here's the best quote yet from the Senator..."We do campaigns; we don't do government. I'm angry at a process in which 100 cannot pass a bill because of 41 votes out of 100 can defeat. Explain that to Joe Six-Pack at the Kmart."

This would be a little hard to do since Joe was fired from K-mart when the store filed for Chapter 11 years ago, and he can no longer afford to buy his Six-Packs! And why is Zell so out of touch? Here is Tom Baxter's explanation...

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't seem to have a Joe Six-Pack on the guest list

It was not only the address but the list of sponsors that caught our eye in an invitation to a Washington reception celebrating the publication of Zell Miller's book, 'A National Party No More.'

The location was the Potomac Room at the toney St. Regis Hotel on K Street. The sponsors were an A-list of Georgia corporations: Southern Co., Coca-Cola, AFLAC, the Williams Group, McKenna, Long & Aldridge, and the Shirley & Banister and Troutman Sanders public affairs groups."
