I use the Kill-a-watt.

It lets you know the power draw of anything up to 1800 watts. I found out the hard way that my beautiful desklamp cost more to operate than my entire home theater. So, it went to the garage sale.

Unless you watch TV 24/7, you'll probably just want to get more efficient everywhere else.

265 Watts is pretty rough on that new TV, but compared to a lot of others, its 100-300 Watts less draw. Your old TV, depending on its size might draw even more though.

HDTVs draw so much that some reports are expecting more powerplants to be built in the future solely to pick up the additional draw.
