18. In countries that have no welfare, kids work because if not families would starve. They are often
too poor to go to school (many schools in the poor nations require that a family be able to afford at least a school uniform). They are the kids of subsistance farmers or the urban poor in less developed nations. They work on farms, hauling water, begging on the street or picking through garbage. The world is trying to stop these practices and get the kids into schools. They do not exist in the USA.
