UK women are 'fattest in Europe'
The UK has more obese women than any other country in Europe, according to European Union figures.

Data agency Eurostat, which looked at 19 countries, found nearly a quarter of UK women - 23.9% - were recorded as being obese in the year 2008 to 2009.

Just over 22% of UK men were classed as obese, coming second only to Malta.

was one of the UK's greatest success stories. :)

Can't remember whether or not I mentioned this before. Saw Alan Price play week before last and will be back for more next week. This isn't a very good video but his version of Dylan's North Country Girl aka Scarborough Fair is spellbinding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHWjYrDhEnA That was shot at The Bull @ Barnes which is where he appears each month.

3. Looking at the overall data...
... I was shocked to see Germany near the bottom of the list: 15.6 for women and 16.1 for men. I can only assume they prepared seperate stats for Bavaria.

The simple fact of the matter is that all the time people eat ready meals that are loaded with sugar salt and fat, it will have adverse effects on their health. No surprise that the countries at the bottom of the list (i.e. France and Italy) are those with the biggest resistance to fast and convenience food. People still cook with fresh ingredients. Maybe that helps to explain Germany's position. The range of convenience foods here is much smaller

I remember the last time I was back in the UK. I was queueing up at the local Tesco and looked at the basket the guy in front was carrying. Six frozen shepherd's pies and some cans of lager. I was tempted to ask: "Excuse me, mate, do you actually eat any food?"

To quote Spike Milligan: "You are what you eat. That's why the British look like sacks of shit tied up in the middle".

I notice people on the BBC comment board saying that they dont remember many fat kids about in the 1960s and 1970s. Clearly, they have no memory about how awful school dinners were in that period.
