GaYellowDawg
GaYellowDawg's JournalI hate right wing propaganda and Pauline religion.
I live in a deep red state and I see so many people with so much potential to be good to others and to the world. But they are led to anger snd hatred towards whomever their church or Fox targets. In their private lives, they would not associate with terrible people like T***p or anyone like that. They are unfailingly kind and generous to people they know, and you all know about things like this: once they get to know someone from a group they are supposed to hate, they carve out an exception as "different." But it's like a switch flips when Fox or their church tells them who to hate or be angry with. I can talk to them and get them to agree that their prejudices are wrong in principle and think that I've made progress with them and then the next time they go to church or watch Fox, they revert. I am so tired of being angry with them and it exhausts me and makes me sad.
Of course there are hopelessly lost assholes who are eager to hate and would find someone to hate no matter what. But I've also seen people who I loved in college, who were wonderful and kind people, change over the last 30 years to mean, judgemental, narrow-minded assholes. And it's been fundamentalist churches and right-wing media that have done it. They poison people down to their bones and make them toxic.
I wish that there was some way of mass deprogramming. There are some people I have cut out of my life, and there are some I simply can't bear to. I don't think I'll ever have anything but hate for Fox and fundamentalism. They have, for profit and power, perverted people in my life and all over the nation until it's turned into something unrecognizable. Sorry that I rambled on so long.
No Kings protest in deep red Morristown TN
Almost 400 people! The MAGA counter protest across the street maxed out at... wait for it... 17.
The police department was awesome. I wish all of you could have the same experience. They caught one car throwing eggs and gave our protesters the option of pressing charges. They declined, but the eggers sure never came back. After we complained about people with water guns and blowing smoke, the MPD sent more cars and we got the absolute delight of seeing a smoker blue lighted and cited.
The best moment for me was welcoming a group of Hispanic teens and telling them we had their back if they wanted to display their Mexican flags. They were delighted and showed them. One of the MAGAs started to yell at them and I got a bullhorn and said "On Flag Day, we Democrats celebrate our First Amendment right to demonstrate and fly any flag we wish to fly! And if you don't understand that, you don't understand the spirit of America or its flag!"
I have no idea where the words flowed from but it sure got us fired up. They didn't have much to say after that, and I made sure to tell those kids we were happy to have them there. They were delighted. They have to live with hatred every day and I'm proud beyond measure that we welcomed them, surrounded them with support, proudly welcomed their voices, and gave them a safe space.
I'm no huge fan of Israel
But fuck Iran. Give a bunch of crazy ass raving lunatic religious fanatics nukes, and they're sure to use them. So I just hope that, since Israel attacked, that they get the whole program.
So there's supposed to be rain on Saturday in Washington, D.C.
It sure would be terrible if a massive lightning strike were to hit Trump's viewing stand. It'd be even worse if he and every toady on the stand got a few thousand volts. I mean, terrible. Probably the single worst thing that could happen, especially if his entire cabinet was there and there were main Fox News personalities "reporting" from the stand.
If anyone in here is from Hamblen County...
The Hamblen County Democratic Party has a new slate of officers. On their behalf, I'd like to invite anyone from here who isn't already actively participating to do so. The HCDP is having our second rally in 3 weeks this Saturday, in front of Morristown East. We will park at the Talley-Ward Building. If you want to come, but don't have signs, we are bringing some extra blank posterboards and markers and will be present at 11:30 AM. The protest will last from 12-2 and is part of the 50501 nationwide movement to uphold the Constitution and end executive overreach. The last protest was better received than we expected, and we were not harassed beyond a few catcalls and one coal-smoke blowing (clearly overcompensating) diesel pickup who was ticketed after his second drive-by.
Thank you for the hearts!
I'm very pleasantly surprised. Just know you made my day!
As a thank-you, I'll share a funny Valentine's Day anecdote. My wife adores chocolate, and she told me that she didn't want me buying a lot of candy this Valentine's Day. So I got her a 3-pound Hershey bar and said, "I only got you one piece of candy!"
I think I'm the most upset with the COVID virus.
We could have been rid of Trump in October 2020. Biden's election would have been even more resounding. No election denial. No January 6. No one for the most toxic elements and people in Republican land to coalesce around. No one to energize R's from 2020-2024. No one to enable Musk and the techbros to this extent. A likely Democratic presidency in 2024.
Dammit, COVID, you had one job.
The TRUMP TAX
That's what we need to call the tariffs. Every single Democratic politician needs to call the tariffs the Trump Tax every single time they're on camera. No matter what the product is, or the topic is, we need to hear that "Everyday Americans are hurting from the Trump tax."
I'm sick and fucking tired of the post-election "why Democrats lost" bullshit.
If you knew so GOT DAMN MUCH, then why the fuck didn't you get off your ass and tell the Harris campaign so that we could win it? Nope, better to do jack shit and then try to pick apart the people who actually got out there and tried it.
In the South, it's the churches.
They have so thoroughly convinced themselves that Trump is God's anointed representative and that the assassin's bullet was guided away by God. They honestly thought a vote for Trump was a vote for God.
If there are elections in the future, there will never be another win by a Democratic candidate for the president in Southern states that are mostly Christian. I don't know how Georgia 2020 happened, but it was a complete aberration and will never happen again.
